Courtney Coaches Limited trading as Courtney Buses is now a subsidiary company of Reading Buses.
Welcome to award-winning Courtney Buses
“I could not have foreseen that back in 1973 when I bought a couple of small taxi businesses in Wokingham just what the future would hold. Time has moved on since then and the business has expanded enormously. In the 80s we changed direction and became a bus company and now operate 60 buses – comprising public bus services and corporate work, including servicing business parks. Each year we carry more than one million customers.
All of our buses are equipped with state-of- the-art technology including on-board TFT screens providing information for our customers and a GPS system which monitors every moment of every bus on every route and live streaming CCTV cameras, which have provided invaluable when dealing with insurance claims.
At Courtney Buses we take ‘green’ issues very seriously and in 2002 we were proud to become the first bus company in the UK to run buses on 100 per cent biofuel. In December 2013 we started the process of introducing Ultra Biofuel to fuel our buses. It necessitated significant investment as we had to fit specially designed conversion tanks which were engineered by an innovative German business and is the only company to provide this technology.
The government had set a target of reducing the country’s carbon footprint by 60 per cent by 2050. Here at Courtney Buses, we have already reduced our footprint by a remarkable 80 per cent which, I believe, makes us the cleanest bus company in the country.
We are proud to have been honoured by our peers. We have won awards in the transport industry trade magazine’s routeone Operator Excellence Awards five times in the last eight years.
We have also been awarded a certificate of accreditation from Investors in People for companies that transform its business performances through people. We are now looking ahead to gain the silver award following advice that we are already operating at that level.
We are an approved JAUPT training centre – (Joint Approvals Unit for Periodic Training) – a scheme which was set up to ensure driver competence as directed by the EU. Various courses can be combined so PVC and LGV drivers can complete their 35 hours of retraining.
Our body shop has its own full size bake oven and our workshop has a team of seven mechanics working on a 24/7 rota, ensuring our vehicles are kept in first-class condition. We would welcome other bus and transport companies which would like to take advantage of our body shop services.
I take delight in the way the business has developed. Our teamwork, which is akin to an extended family, is great. It is a compliment to the team of people who work for us. Without them none of this would have been possible and I salute them.
We are proud of our green credentials and I believe that we operate the cleanest bus company in the country. Courtney Buses prides itself on quality, value and integrity. Our motto really says it all. We are Driven by Service”.
